{Day 8} Thinking about a wonderful friend...

Yesterday I mentioned the glorious freedom in moving out of the swampland of shame.

First, let me say that this moving out is an ongoing process. Sometimes one of my shoes still gets stuck in the mud. Sometimes my legs are tired and I know it would be easier to simply stay where I am.

Sometimes a day doesn’t go as planned and the Never Good Enough voice screams, “Get back in the middle of the swamp where you belong!!”

Sometimes all the chores of the day don’t get finished.

Like this day. And a blog post.

So it is 11:18pm. Which translates to 4th down. Which means I am going to punt.

I will leave you with two items which will be listed in the “Ten Things You Don’t Know about Beth Painter” article published when I am a bestselling author and highly sought after speaker:

1.   As a child, I often sang myself to sleep. Entire albums in order.
2.   The Ford Fairlane we had for several years did not have a working radio. I was 10 when we got it. I kept a United Methodist Hymnal in the car and sang any time I was in the car.

Singing is a precious gift to me. And having a large portion of the hymnal memorized has carried me through some difficult times. I love contemporary worship music and have sung in our church band for 16 years, but hymns have a special place in my heart and my faith journey.

Here is one of my favorites. Maybe it is one of yours as well. If you are like me, you remember your parents and grandparents singing it in church.

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!

Good night and rest well.

We will get back to ALLOWING tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.
